Scott Cooksey

Scott Cooksey

Owner and Artist

Owner of Lone Star Tattoo, Scott Cooksey, began tattooing in 1995. In the early days, Scott tattooed at shops in Dallas’ Deep Ellum downtown nightlife districts. Early on, Scott became passionate and knowledgeable in the American Traditional and irezumi- traditional Japanese motifs. Intensely studying the tattoo masters like Horiyoshi III, Hokusai (Japanese painter 1760-1849), Sailor Jerry Collins, Bert Grimm and Don Ed Hardy, and being influenced by the likes of Austin tattooers Dave Lum and Chris Trevino. Scott fine tuned his craft of tattooing into what some call “Texas Style” tattooing. Before opening Lone Star Tattoo in 2005, Scott spent part of each year on the road traveling to other tattoo shops around the country as a guest artist and attending tattoo conventions. Scott also owns and operates Godspeed Tattoo in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Waylon Harp

Waylon Harp

Artist

Waylon Harp rose from the ashes of the 80’s and 90’s punk skate scene clutching a tattoo machine and wielding his board, unscathed. His tattooing style is Traditional, bold and colorful. Waylon shares a room with another one of our resident artists, Ronin, and usually has on some pretty rad skate tapes from back in the day. Waylon likes to travel, and can usually be found at tattoo conventions across America. When not working, Waylon likes to spend time with his family, as well as painting.

Andrea Gibson

Andrea Gibson

Artist

Wow, what a gal! Andrea Gibson has really shown what is possible with the power of color and natural talent. Anything from standard Traditional to Neo-traditional (her typical style) is where and how she shines. Andrea has been into art and drawing for as long as she can remember, citing one of her friends from high school as the main reason she got into tattooing. She likes working with others and finds a fulfillment that comes with helping people find what’s right for them. Andrea likes spending time with her friends and pets, collecting bugs and crystals (usually making oddities such as dioramas from the two), and watching movies. She has a dog, Domingo, that she has been training for years in the arts of circus tricks and sweet moves.

Hannah Edwards

Hannah Edwards

Artist

It seemed like destiny for Hannah Edwards to pick up the tattoo machine, growing up around bikers and tattooing. She always felt a pull towards the buzz of the needle against skin, and when she got her first tattoo at 18, she knew there was no looking back. Hannah’s style is heavily influenced by Sailor Jerry and Ed Hardy, specializing in Rat Fink tattoos and American Traditional. When she isn’t tattooing, however, she enjoys spending her time browsing vintage clothing, accessory and decoration shops, as well as checking out the local record stores. You can also catch her at local music venues and hole-in-the-wall restaurants trying new foods. When she is home, she’s hanging out with her dog, Roscoe.

Justin Smith

Justin Smith

Artist

Justin’s favorite thing to do is to tattoo – when he’s not at the shop, Justin paints, draws, and continues to research the art of Japanese traditional tattooing. This dedication is reflected in the quality of Justin’s work and his approach to tattooing in general! Since he started in 2000 he hasn’t looked back and continues to grow and improve either through his paintings or his tattoos.

Josh Odom

Josh Odom

Artist

Josh Odom is all about tattooing! His drive is obvious in his quality of work, not to mention having a constant positive attitude. Besides loving to tattoo, Josh also loves to tattoo and tattooing. Oh, and drawing too. You have to draw a tattoo before it can be a tattoo, you see. When Josh takes a break from tattooing, he finds great pleasure in painting tattoo designs: another favorite pastime of Josh’s. When Josh isn’t sleeping, he’s up to what he thrives to do and is a professional at…tattooing, tattooing, and tattooing!

Justin Gorbey

Justin Gorbey

Artist

Resident to our other shop, Godspeed Tattoo in Breckenridge, CO., Justin Gorbey has a reputation for creating bright and bold tattoos with an unrivaled sense for color. With his dad also being a tattooer, all the cards were in place-  Especially after being tattooed by Will Card in Denton at Aces Tattoos, which is what led him to chose the path of ink. Justin went to school for Graphic Design and Photography, and it shows in his work. To this day, he still enjoys taking cool photos. His interests also include hiking and being out in nature with the mountains.

Milan Moné

Milan Moné

Artist

The ever-classy Milan Moné is best known for her fine-line tattooing style, typically in black and grey. She once held a career in Oklahoma in Marketing and holds a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing, but Milan came to the realization that she wanted a different path in life— tattooing. When she isn’t focusing on her art, Milan likes to spend time at home with her kittens, studying different cultures by means of internet research, or through documentaries and people. She also studies plants, most specifically flowers, among other forms of vegetation.

Ronin

Ronin

Artist

“Back in the day, skating and tattooing just went hand-in-hand, like a lighter and gasoline.” Not to quote Ronin, but this is definitely something he would say. Straight out of the classic punk skate scene, Scott Ronin has never lost touch with his roots.
When you walk into Ronin and Waylon’s room at Lone Star, it becomes very apparent the sheer ability in his work when it comes to Traditional Irezumi. Ronin has closely followed the traditions of the Japanese art-style without wavering or changing anything- completely authentic works of art. Ronin’s interests include economics, punk rock, skating, hanging out with his daughter, and Kung Fu Theater.

My wife had her nose pierced a few weeks ago. Everyone was very nice. Even got a quote on a Tattoo that others said they couldn't do. Will be going this Saturday to get it put on. Update: awesome job by Gilbert! I definitely found my tattoo place!
